Welcome to The MGA Open 2020

You are invited to take part in one of the most anticipated amateur golf tournaments the UK has ever seen. We are delighted to confirm that the inaugural MGA Open 2020 will this year be held at the world-renowned Belfry. The majestic fairways and carpet-smooth greens of The Brabazon form a world-famous stage on which some of golf’s most exhilarating dramas have played out. We now invite you to create your own history.

The Belfry

Walk in the footsteps of golfing legends – Seve’s historic drive onto the 10th green; Sam Torrance’s famous putt that won the 1985 Ryder Cup match for the European Team or Christie O’Connor Jr’s belligerent 2 iron across the lake at the 18th. What will be your moment?

Two Day Tournament

A unique opportunity to test yourself against players from across the UK. You will be given the chance to play both The Brabazon & The PGA National over two exciting days.

Luxury Hotel

Experience the world-class luxury of the award-winning Belfry Hotel & Resort, including iconic golf, restaurants, stunning rooms and a relaxing spa. Spending time in the hotel will evoke memories of the superb Ryder Cup matches to have been staged at The Belfry, especially when you pass the European and American team rooms, where so many rousing speeches have been delivered.

“I look into their eyes, shake their hand, pat their back, and wish them luck, but I am thinking, ‘I am going to bury you.”

Seve Ballesteros

The Tournament

The MGA Open is a two-day tournament played across The Brabazon & The PGA National. This is a singles tournament where we will add your Stableford score from day one to your Stableford score from day two for an overall points score. On day two The MGA Open will be given course exclusivity as we are starting with a shotgun start on both courses.

2 DAY tournament

The full field will play 18 holes on both of the two days, with one round on each of the two courses, The Brabazon on one day and The PGA National the next day.

The competition shall consist of 36 holes Stableford off 100% handicap. Your final score will be a cumulative score of Stableford points accrued over the two days.

120+ pLAYERS

Join a field of 120+ players from across the UK who love the game as much as you do.

Handicap Divisions

The tournament will be broken down into three handicap divisions (TBC).
Div 1: 0-10
Div 2: 11 - 18
Div 3: 19+

Players will be playing off their full competition handicap. You will need to provide your CDH number as proof.

Absolutely not! All MGA events are open to players from all backgrounds regardless of religion, ethnicity or nationality. MGA events are held upon basic Islamic values hence there will be no alcohol or gambling involved, and prayer arrangements will be made.  We ask all our participants to respect these guidelines.

We welcome all participants with or without a handicap. To win the placed prizes, you must have an official competition CONGU handicap (this will be indicated by a small C after your handicap). If you don’t have an official competition handicap you can play your playing handicap or get a Golfshake handicap ( )for free and participate in the Golfshake competition. If you don’t want to do that, participate just for fun. We verify handicaps of prize winners through our access to central handicap databases for the respective unions, where all CONGU handicaps are logged.

Yes! You can join as a single golfer – just change the quantity to 1 when you book, we will then pair you up before we draw tee times. We anticipate many single golfers participation in this competition.

There will be prizes for 1st & 2nd place on offer in each respected handicap division for players with an official CONGU handicap. A single 1st place prize will be offered to the winner with a Non compeition/GOLFSHAKE handicap.

There may also be a nearest to the Pin and Longest drive prize on the final day.

You will be drawn with players who have a similar handicap to yours. This is to create a competitive environment but also a great chance to meet & network with players of similar ability and test yourself against others.

Course itinerary and playing schedule for both days will be sent up to 1 week in advance. This will be done on a random basis.

On Sunday 25th (Day 1) we will look to tee off at around 10am. This will be a rolling start throughout the day. On Monday (Day 2) we will be having a SHOTGUN start on both courses and expect to finish around the same time for the prize-giving ceremony & lunch. Tee times are released 1-2 weeks before the competition. Once they are released we will notify you by email. If you wish to advise us of a tee time preference you must do this in the user registration form you are emailed ahead of the competition.

There is no handicap limit in any of our competitions since we are inclusive of all golfing abilities and rely on the integrity of the handicap system to ensure a fair competition.

Mandatory pick up when not scoring, penalties in place for not keeping up with the group in front, marshalls on the course and a starter on the course managing first tee are some of the things we do. However, we rely on every golfer to act responsibly and be ready to play.

No – all putts must be holed out.

The rooms are based on a Twin/Double sharing option. You can book the room with single occupancy (so you share with no-one) but there is a £50 extra charge.
We encourage you to book with a friend so you can share the room together, this is the most cost-effective price. If you don’t have someone to share with but are happy sharing a room you also have that option.

The Brabazon

The Iconic Golf Course

18 Holes
Par 72 6,729 Yards Parkland

Home to 4 Ryder Cups

The Brabazon course has witnessed some of the most dramatic golfing moments in Ryder Cup history. The Brabazon first held the tournament in 1985, and has since gone from strength to strength. The golf course was designed by Dave Thomas and Peter Allis and is always kept in pristine condition with lightning-fast greens and treacherous bunkers adding to the challenge of the layout. The signature holes are the 10th and the 18th. The 10th is a unique short par 4, approximately 300 yards in length, with water running along the right-hand side of the fairway. Made famous in the 1985 Ryder Cup when golf legend Seve Ballesteros twice drove the green, it has truly become one of the most memorable holes in golf.

seve's magic

The memorable 10th, a short par 4, measuring about 300 yards with water running along the right side. It's driveable - you have seen Seve do it, so go on, you've got to go for it.

Bring extra balls

There is more water here than any other inland course across the UK. We advise you to bring extra balls 🙂

4 ryder cups

No other course in the world has held three Ryder cups let alone four. The Brabazon is a MUST play bucket list course.

Worlds best hotel

The Belfry won the World's Best Golf Hotel 2019 at the World Golf Awards, Abu Dhabi.

The PGA National

The Challenging Golf Course

18 Holes
Par 72 6,639 Yards Parkland

The only PGA branded golf course in England

With its inland links appearance, this championship golf course presents a unique challenge with fast running fairways, undulating greens, severe run-offs and its 70 strategically placed cavernous bunkers. Hosting two European Tour golf events, the PGA National is fast becoming one of the top golf courses in the United Kingdom. Recognised by the PGA as a world-class tournament course, and the only PGA golf course in England, it is a must for golfers who enjoy the creativity required for links golf.
