We are based in St Andrews, the home of golf, and are here to make golf more accessible, appealing and inclusive.Our unique position and profile within the sport enables us to inspire, influence and engage people all over the world to take up and follow golf.Emanating from the rich heritage of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, formed in 1754, The R&A has evolved to play a global role in the sport.The R&A group of companies was formed in 2004 to take on The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews’ responsibilities for governing the Rules of Golf, staging The Open, golf’s original championship, and developing the sport. The World Golf Museum in St Andrews is part of The R&A group.In 2017, The R&A merged with the Ladies’ Golf Union (LGU) and now stages the AIG Women’s Open and amateur championships and international matches for women and girls.
Girls Golf LPGA
Founded in 1989 by a woman who dreamed of sharing her love for the game of golf with her two daughters, we’ve grown into a community of more than 90,000 girls across the globe who are learning and loving the game! Run in partnership between the LPGA Foundation and the USGA (United States Golf Association), LPGA*USGA Girls Golf (Girls Golf) is a non-profit 501-c3 junior golf program with sites in more than 500 communities across the country.
Girls Golf sites provide girls with quality golf instruction led by LPGA and PGA teaching professionals or certified coaches from The First Tee. Not only are they experts in taking girls from beginner to advanced golfers, but they also specialize in creating experiences that show girls just how much fun golf really is!
What could be better than that? Well, Girls Golf members learn more than just the game of golf. We help empower them with confidence and teach them valuable life skills. From Leadership skills to inspiring healthy living, we use the Five E’s of Girls Golf to Empower, Enrich, Engage, Exercise, and Energize girls through the game of golf.
LPGA Foundation
he LPGA Foundation supports women and young people through programs and initiatives aimed at empowering them through the game of golf. Since its founding, The LPGA Foundation has touched more than 500,000 lives through various scholarship and financial assistance programs, along with its flagship junior golf program, LPGA*USGA Girls Golf.
The LPGA Foundation was established in 1991 and is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which supports junior golf programs, scholarships, and financial assistance programs for women and young ladies.
The LPGA Foundation has four main goals:
- to develop and maintain junior golf programs across the country
- to develop and maintain scholarship programs for junior golfers
- to maintain a financial assistance fund for those in the golf industry
- and to conduct research and develop educational activities related to golf instruction
Since its inception, The LPGA Foundation has created and supported a number of programs to achieve those objectives. LPGA*USGA Girls Golf, one of the Foundation’s programs, has established The LPGA Foundation as a leader in the golf industry in youth initiatives.
The Underrated Tour
Our passion is rooted in statistics. Today, there are only two black men in the top 100 worldwide rankings and only one black woman in the top 300. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods, who is recognized as the most important golfer of all time, is of thai, white, black and native american descent. Although his reign on the sport is celebrated, the number of professional black golfers coming up in his shoes continues to be less and less.
As a predominantly white male sport, the system and institution of golf was designed to benefit certain groups over others. Underrated Golf believes the game of golf is for everyone, but we know that there is significant work to be done to make it a just, fair and inspiring sport for all. We are building that foundation from the bottom up, offering young overlooked golfers special programming experiences including an ongoing speaker series and networking events with brands and corporations, allowing them to understand what it means to make connections and build a successful career. Our platform also serves as a powerful recruitment tool for corporate entities to hire future leaders who will further our mission locally, nationally and globally, while also helping these establishments diversify their staff.
